The Central Connecticut Civic Youth Orchestra
isn't such a mouthfull once you realize why it is so long.

The Central Connecticut area- not Hartford, not New Haven, but Central CT, right where we live, does not have an orchestra for young musicians. Schools can't do it. They have bands. It isn't the same.

I don't really know why, but I guess that is what most people want, and they can play for football games. You can't play a cello at a football game, the sound doesn't carry very well.

But together we can pull together enough kids, enough support and music will happen.

The Central Connecticut Civic Youth Orchestra has been officially named a success. We had 14 young musicians, and they have played diligently for the 10 weeks. The concert is 2:00 on Sunday, June 25th, at Temple B'Nai Abraham, 127 East Main Street in Meriden, please come and hear/see their wonderful work. The concert will last about an hour.

We can all be very proud of these fine young musicians, and I am really looking forward to our next session, which will start either the last week September or in the first week of October.

Please tell all of the young string players (violin, viola, cello) that you knnow that we exist!
We would also be interested in high school-level flute players. As there is no other orchestra around these parts, we hope to get 40-50 students in the program. More is better!

Things are quiet in the City and on Steven Zerio's City Council blog, so he asked what is on our minds, I asked Mr. Zerio if there is any discussion about the City Center Initiative and the Arts component, he said there hadn't been any discussion. That's too bad. If we ask, I bet we can get one going. Can we have a discussion here?

Do you want the City Center Initiative? It has been so long, I wonder how many people remember it? Please leave a comment if you would like to see the concept revived or thing it was a boodoggle to begin with! I'm going to pursue it with Mr. Zerio, and Mr. Salafia and see what I can find. Wish me good luck!

Now is the time!

The Central Connecticut Civic Youth Orchestra needs you! Our first rehearsal is tomorrrow!

Our rehearsals are from 4-6 at Temple B'Nai Abraham on Wednedsays until the June 25th concert from 2-4 in the afternoon.

Anyone who wishes to help defray the costs of insurance and other expenses may send a check to Katrina S. Axelrod and mail it to 50 Westerly Terrace, Meriden, CT 06451-2630 please note "CCCYO Expenses" on the front bottom portion of the check. Thanks very much. You will receive a note of thanks from the CCCYO for your taxes. We hope to be tax-exepmt by the end of 2006.

Just as important, please send along the young musicians in our community! We will have two ensembles, one for the younger musicians and one for the older ones. Recital opportunities exist for community young musicians, including singers and instrumentalists at the June 25th concert.
